Best Time to Perform Umrah
There's no single "best" month — it genuinely depends on what you're weighing: cost, crowds, weather, or the specific significance of Ramadan. Here's how each actually plays out.
Ramadan
The most spiritually significant time to perform Umrah for many, and by far the busiest and most expensive — expect meaningfully higher prices and much larger crowds at the Haram, especially in the last ten nights. Worth it for many travelers specifically because of what it is, not despite the crowds.
Winter (roughly November – February)
The most popular time outside Ramadan, and for good reason — noticeably cooler temperatures make the walking and standing involved genuinely more comfortable, especially for older travelers or those less used to heat. Prices sit in the middle of the range: busier and pricier than summer, calmer and cheaper than Ramadan.
Summer (roughly June – August)
The quietest and often cheapest time to travel, but genuinely hot — Makkah and Madinah regularly see extreme daytime temperatures. Manageable with sensible precautions (timing outdoor movement around prayer times, staying hydrated), and the lighter crowds are a real trade-off worth considering if heat doesn't put you off.
School holiday periods generally
Regardless of season, UK school holidays push prices up and availability down, since more families travel together during them. If your schedule is flexible, traveling just outside these windows is one of the simplest ways to get a better price on the same package.
